Overview of 6th grade Social Studies:
The sixth grade course covers the continents of Africa, Asia, and Australia. The content
explores geography, culture, history, and the Civic Core (i.e., a study of American society
and politics, and other people's ideas and lives both past and present that have influenced
the development of the American democracy). The Civic Core unit traces the foundation of
civilization in Mesopotamia and the foundation of democracy by comparing the government
of ancient Greece with that of ancient Rome.

Overview of 7th grade Social Studies:
The seventh grade course covers the continents of Europe, South America, and North America.
The content explores geography, culture, history, and the Civic Core (i.e., a study of American
society and politics, and other people's ideas and lives both past and present that have influenced
the development of the American democracy).

Overview of 8th grade Social Studies:
The eighth grade course covers the time period of 1607-1880, starting with European settlements
of North American and concluding with Reconstruction of the US after the Civil War. The last six
weeks of school are reserved for the teacher to address topics in United States history since 1880.
