IB Parent Committee Meeting
March 10, 2008
In attendance:
Faculty: Dr. Jhunu Mohaptra, Ms. Helme – Spanish teacher, Mrs. Dalila Hernandez, and Beatriz Smith – Language Arts teacher from 6th
Fund Raising:
Presentation on EPCOT international awareness experience.
$3600 – needed for proposed EPCOT trip for 6th graders (113 IB students).
1 chaperone for every ten kids needed…
Cafeteria – Can’t sell cookies in the cafeteria – separate business. Don’t want kids handling the money…
Garage sale – Bingo night – Car wash (don’t make enough) – Babysitting – Beef O’Brady’s, Cici’s, etc. – Raffles –
Silent Auctions (previous schools done - good returns in the past) – Timeshare week
Principal for the day – do the announcements, shadow the principal, etc.
Restaurant.com – can buy a dinner card for <$10.

Gift baskets for Mother’s Day (when: second Sunday in May - May 11)
Donations needed – for auction – get items in by 4th April – update will be issued.
Parental Involvement:
To participate in events and after school programs – the County has to check you out – background check. [Auditions].

International Awareness:
6th grade children – present experience of visit to EPCOT last year
- Japan. China
Jackson Hewitt – got $10 from anyone who does their taxes with JH.
Community service counts for work done for this fundraising
Students need to re-apply to be in 7th and 8th grade next year. 15 kids in probation.
Parent to write; also children should write also what it means to them – that they want to
be in the program – taking ownership and why – no immediate deadline for kids already
in program.
Meetings: Agreed time - 6:30 p.m. for future meetings, 2nd Monday of the month.
