TIPS FOR SUCCESS
Your child is enrolled in the advanced program, which entails rigorous academic challenges. These challenges will stimulate academic growth,
as well as character growth, which will serve them for years to come. These tips were compiled to help you understand how to help your child
deal with the increased rigor of the advanced program.

1. Show confidence that your child CAN succeed.
2. Help establish a time and place in your home that can be used to study.
3. Help organize binders and IAN every night. Use Table of Contents to help guide this organizational activity.
4. Help child to nightly review class notes and activities.
5. Communicate with parents of your child's classmates to set-up study buddy sessions.

Mr. Magnasco - 6th grade IB Geography

Welcome to IB Geography! This year we will study ancient civilizations, Africa, Asia, review basic geographical
concepts, and we will discuss world problems in the Eastern Hemisphere. I was born in Beunos Aires, Argentina. I
received a B.S. degree in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University, and a Master's degree in Counseling Pyschology
from the University of Tennessee. This is my 2nd year here at Jackson. I also have a pyschology private practice which I
do part-time. If you have any questions please email me at magnasm@ocps.net. Thank you!

Mrs. Helme - 6th grade IB Spanish

I grew up in upstate New York, but I moved to Orlando at a fairly early age. Therefore, I am a product of
OCPS. I attended the University of Central Florida and obtained my B.A. in Spanish and I received a
certification in translation and interpretation. I started working at the Orange County Public Defenders office
as an interpreter and translator where I worked in the Department of Private Investigation. It was an amazing
experience, but I knew that my purpose was somewhere else. That is when I started teaching. I have been
teaching at Jackson now for three years and I couldn't be happier.

Our Spanish program doesn't only focus on the spoken language, but also on the origin, spelling, and grammar
of Spanish. I believe that all the aspects are necessary when learning a new language. Each unit is themed. The
units include objectives, a guiding question, essential questions, and assessments. Also, please be aware that all
of the student's work will be done in their Interactive Notebook. Therefore, it is a large portion of the grade. Please
check the student's agenda regularly. This is a great way to communicate to parents what their student is learning
and doing in class
