Yearbook Club
The Yearbook staff for the 2008-2009 school year will consist of 10 members (three 6th graders, three 7th graders and four 8th graders). Application forms will be distributed to interested candidates in August.
Members will be chosen after Labor Day.
*If you are interested in being in Yearbook, you must be able to attend weekly meetings (this might mean if you plan on playing sports, find out what days practice will be - you may not be able to do both).
Yearbook staff members will be a collaboration of writers, photographers, and designers. Each student will learn to use the design program - Adobe In Design CS3 - which is used to create the Yearbook. We will be working together to promote and sell the Yearbook, collect information (interviews, research, etc.), take pictures of all school events, sports games, as well as random student pictures, and possibly attend a Herff Jones workshop early in the school year.

*You can still order your 2007-2008 Yearbook
TODAY for $25!*

Step Team
Jackson Middle School has two step teams this year. A boy's squad that consists of 12 boys and a
girl's squad that consists of 40 girls. Under the supervision of Ms. Watson, the two squads practice
weekly to create unique routines and dances. Performances will be during lunches a few times a year
along with a trip to the Central Florida fair to perform for the county.
Stepping or step-dancing is a form of percussive dance in which the participant's entire body is
used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken
word, and hand claps. Though stepping may be performed by an individual, it is generally performed
by groups of three or more, often in arrangements that resemble military formations.

Service Learning Club
The students of Jackson Middle School and the Service Learning Club recently completed our
first successful Penny Harvest, collecting over 625 pounds (a little more than 25 bags of 25-lb bags
of pennies and other denominations) of coins. When these bags are delivered to the Common
Cents organization, the Service Learning Club will receive a check for $1000.00 to add to the funds
we raised in October with our car washes. The funds we have raised will be used to create grants to
teachers here at school to use to meet the needs of Jackson students. The students in the Club will
create the grants, judge the grant applications, and then decide which applications should get the funds.
The Service Learning Club also participates in food drives and collecting items to help the homeless of Orlando. There are also guest speakers and most importantly, the great feeling you get when you are part of a group of caring individuals whose main goal is helping the community. |
