Jackson Middle School
School Advisory Committee Meeting
October 8, 2008

The meeting was called to order at 6:35 pm

Welcome by Dr. Jhuna Mohapatra, Asst. Principal
Parents, students and teachers were welcomed. The purpose of the committee was stated and the need for it to represent the diversity
of our student body. The previous meeting minutes were read by the Secretary, Robin Klavon.

Dr. Miller, Principal, spoke on our agenda and touched on the various topics.
He also shared the need for a clear roster of the individuals that will attend every month to make up the committee. The importance of this
committee was stressed. We are an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program World School and an OCPS Magnet School for
this program.

Old Business: At our last meeting in September 2008, the AVID and IB programs were discussed. Officers for the Committee were
nominated and elected for the school year.

New Business: Dr. Martina, 8th grade counselor, shared in depth information regarding Middle School Promotion. She touched on all
topics through a Powerpoint Presentation. Questions were addressed and High School Planning was stressed.

Specialized programs were discussed. (i.e.technical preparation, extra curricular activities and school clubs.) The 2009 Florida Bright
Futures Scholarship Information was distributed and discussed.

A Magnet Fair will be held at Jones High School on Thursday, October 23, 2008 from 5-8pm in an Open House format. An itinerary
was distributed for all the high school's upcoming Magnet Events.

Teacher, Beatriz Smith spoke on the upcoming "Penny Harvest" set to begin Monday October 13, 2008 and continue throughout the next
five weeks. She shared an informative Powerpoint presentation and discussed the program. The importance of what this money could
mean to our community was discussed.

Dr. Miller, Principal, shared with the group that because of moving from a C school to a B school, we have received a bonus to be shared
as the school sees fit. It was suggested that we split these monies between: instructional staff, classified and custodial staff at a 60/30/10
split.

A motion was made and unanimously approved for the use of these monies.

Dr. Mohapatra summarized the presentations and the meeting was adjourned at 7:50 pm.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, November 12, 2008.
